Impacts of Indian summer monsoon and stratospheric intrusion on air pollutants in the inland Tibetan Plateau

چکیده
Air pollutants can be transported to the pristine regions such as Tibetan Plateau, by monsoon and stratospheric intrusion. The Plateau region has limited local anthropogenic emissions, while this is influenced strongly transport of heavy emissions mainly from South Asia. We conducted a comprehensive study on various air (PM2.5, total gaseous mercury, surface ozone) at Nam Co Station in inland Plateau. Monthly mean PM2.5 concentration peaked April before season, decreased during whole season (June–September). mercury concentrations July were high levels season. Indian summer acted facilitator for transporting (total mercury) but suppressor particulate (PM2.5) Different both variabilities, ozone are primarily attributed intrusion May. effects complex require further studies.

Signature of stratospheric air at the Tibetan Plateau
[1] Current estimates of gross carbon flux tend to ignore the downwelling flux of CO2 from the stratosphere. Observations showed that there is a phase shift between the time series for the concentration of the standard isotopologue COO and COO at Waliguan, China (36 170N, 100 540E, 3816 m) and several other places. Previous attempts to explain the shift have not been satisfactory. Here we show ...
متن کاملOrographic Effects of the Tibetan Plateau on the East Asian Summer Monsoon: An Energetic Perspective
This paper investigates the dynamical processes throughwhich the Tibetan Plateau (TP) influences theEast Asian summer monsoon (EASM) within the framework of the moist static energy (MSE) budget, using both observations and atmospheric general circulation model (AGCM) simulations. The focus is on the most prominent feature of the EASM, the so-called meiyu–baiu (MB), which is characterized by a w...
متن کاملAsian summer monsoon anomalies induced by aerosol direct forcing: the role of the Tibetan Plateau
In this paper we present results of a numerical study using the NASA finite-volume GCM to elucidate a plausible mechanism for aerosol impact on the Asian summer monsoon involving interaction with physical processes over the Tibetan Plateau (TP). During the premonsoon season of March–April, dusts from the deserts of western China, Afghanistan/Pakistan, and the Middle East are transported into an...
متن کاملSimulated impacts of land cover change on summer climate in the Tibetan Plateau
The Tibetan Plateau (TP) is a key region of land–atmosphere interactions with severe eco-environment degradation. This study uses an atmospheric general circulation model, NCEP GCM/SSiB, to present the major TP summer climate features for six selected ENSO years and preliminarily assess the possible impact of land cover change on the summer circulation over the TP. Compared to Reanalysis II dat...
متن کاملImpact of variability in the Indian summer monsoon on the East Asian summer monsoon
We report on model experiments that support the hypothesis that the second mode of variability of the East Asian Summer Monsoon is influenced by the variability of the Indian Summer Monsoon. The results suggest that the recent trend towards drier conditions in northern China in summer is, at least partly, a consequence of the synchronous drying trend over India in summer noted by some authors. ...
